What changes have been made to Nationwide Pet Insurance and how are they affecting coverage? I only had this insurance through work since we got a discount as a perk. It was pretty basic, covering 70% of costs for accidents and illnesses with a $250 deductible. But a few months ago, my monthly payment jumped from around $40 to just over $120, which is a 300% increase.
I called them up to complain and found out they’ve implemented a new policy that raises your rates based on your dog’s age and breed. We’ve only used the insurance once a few years back, and thankfully, our dog’s health has been good since then. The rep I spoke with was honest about how if I tried to change my plan, it could leave me in a tough spot, which I appreciated. You could tell he was tired from handling these types of calls all day.
They also take ages to process claims and are quick to reject them over minor errors. I waited over five months for reimbursement. The only positive experience I had with them was when I thought my vet had charged me incorrectly, but it turned out to be a mistake on Nationwide’s part. I received 70% back on a claim because of their error. If they actually cared about their customers, I might feel differently, but for now, I’m just laughing all the way to the bank.
That’s so frustrating. Do you know why they weren’t calculating things right? Or is it just because their customer service is bad? I feel like they’re doing this for profit, not because of any real reason. And that discount we supposedly get through work… it’s barely anything. Feels like they’re just using these contracts with companies to rake in more money.
Wow, I’m in the same boat as you. I’ve got the Nationwide policy through a discount at work, too. My rate jumped from $426 to $576 a year, starting next month. I haven’t even used the insurance yet. I’m thinking about whether it’s worth keeping.
I bet your deductible is around $300 like mine. There are definitely better options out there, but if you’ve had this policy for a while, maybe hang onto it. You might want to get some medical tests done before switching, just to be safe.
Nationwide is awful. They tried to say my dog’s illness was pre-existing when it clearly wasn’t. They went through old records and found some minor lab values from two years before I got the policy, even though the issue had resolved. Total scam.
Same here. My policy covers up to $7,500 with 90% coverage and a $250 deductible. I was paying $102 a month, but now they’re raising it to $299. I’m just in shock.
That’s insane! We were nearing the end of our policy when they raised the rates, thankfully. But even after we canceled, they kept taking payments from my account for two months. Now they’re telling me I have to wait six months to get my refund.
