What pet insurance do you all use? I have a one-year-old corgi mix, and I’m on the lookout for affordable insurance with solid coverage. I’m not too familiar with how pet insurance works, but I imagine it’s similar to regular health insurance for us. How much do you typically pay each month, and what benefits do you get? My pup has been to the vet a couple of times, and luckily, the costs weren’t too bad besides his neutering and microchip. I’d hate to get hit with a huge bill someday. Thanks for any advice
I have a four-year-old German Shepherd, and I’m using Fursure Pet Insurance. My monthly payment is $85, which covers 90% of costs after a $250 deductible, and there’s no annual limit. I also opted for the $20 wellness plan with a $265 limit for exams, vaccines, and other preventative care. They even give you a debit card for easy payments, which you can use with Apple Pay or physically. I’ve had it for about two months, and it’s been great. When I schedule a vet visit, I ask for an estimated invoice, then submit it through their app for pre-approval. They usually approve it quickly and transfer the funds to my card. If I forget, my vet can handle it in the office within 15-20 minutes. You should definitely check their website for quotes and customize your plan to fit your needs.
I’m getting my first puppy in a few weeks and going with ASPCA. My parents have PetsBest, which they like a lot. They started at around $50 a month, but now it’s about $100 as the dog has gotten older. They’ve only used it a couple of times, but they have no complaints. My ASPCA plan is $51 a month with a $1000 deductible and 100% reimbursement once that’s met, plus unlimited coverage. I appreciate this plan because I’m okay spending about $1600 a year, but I worry more about facing huge bills that could be in the tens of thousands. I like knowing my maximum budget for emergencies. ASPCA also covers more illnesses than some other companies. Just a heads up, you have to call them for this specific plan since it’s not advertised on their site, or you can get it through Pawlicy. I suggest playing around with quotes there to see your options.
There are a ton of options out there. From my research, Trupanion and Pets Best are on the pricier side. I’m choosing SPOT because it’s more affordable and offers good coverage. Just so you know, with SPOT, you pay the full amount upfront and then get reimbursed later when you file a claim.
I have SPOT too, and I really like how customizable their plans are. I feel like I can cover everything I need without paying for extras that I wouldn’t use.
I initially planned to go with SPOT, but I ended up choosing MetLife instead. It was a little cheaper for the same coverage. The big plus with MetLife is that they don’t limit wellness care. Many insurers offer just a small amount for things like exams or teeth cleaning, but MetLife covers the actual costs. For example, where I live, an exam is about $70, and neutering is around $620. Once I hit my $250 deductible, they cover 80%.
