Why are Trupanion prices increasing so much?

Has anyone else seen their Trupanion prices jump like crazy since August 2023?

August 2023: I got a notice that my rate was going up from $31 to $38 a month.

Today: Just got another notice saying it’s jumping from $38 to $55 a month!! :flushed:

I signed up my dog when he was less than a year old in 2022.

Yeah, Trupanion is known for having higher premiums. Out of the thousands of quotes I’ve done for different breeds all over the country, Trupanion consistently comes out as the most expensive.

Good to know. We’re planning to cancel and switch to USAA under our homeowners insurance. I was totally shocked by that email today.

USAA partners with Embrace for their pet insurance, and Embrace actually has some of the best coverage out there. Hopefully, it’ll work out great for you.

That’s so reassuring! I was pretty excited when I saw that option. Definitely making the switch. Thanks so much

Yeah, Trupanion has been hiking rates lately, but they’re not the only ones. If you check out this subreddit, you’ll see other companies doing the same thing. Trupanion just always seems to be on the higher end.

I’d love to hear how Embrace works out for you. They can be pricey too, but let’s see.

And hey, just a heads up, when you switch insurances, make sure you know about pre-existing conditions. Anything already in your vet’s records before you switch usually won’t be covered by the new policy.

Oh, and by the way, I came across a post here about Embrace recently where someone said their price quadrupled. Something to keep in mind.

I called Trupanion last month to ask about my rate hike, and they straight-up told me that all their prices are going up around 40%

That’s insane. A 40% increase is just wild.

Yeah, apparently, it’s becoming normal for them to charge 40% more at renewal. It’s crazy, it’s more than what I pay for my car insurance :joy:
