Whenever I try to play on my Switch, my dog goes crazy. He’ll lie on my chest, block my view, and push my controller away. I can’t get him to stop, even if I tell him to go away. He’s well taken care of, and normally doesn’t want any attention from me except when I start gaming. I don’t get it, what can I do?
Have you tried crating him? I mean, you should get some time to game in peace…

Yeah, he gets attention all day, but as soon as I try to relax, it’s like I’m not allowed to
@Reagan
That’s tough, what breed is he?
Do you ever get frustrated while gaming? I’ve noticed that when my partner plays, our dogs get all worked up because they think something’s wrong. They don’t understand yelling, but they know it’s bad, so they come to me. Maybe your dog is reacting to the emotions you’re showing while gaming? Try keeping calm or maybe crate him while you play. Or you could try a thunder jacket if it’s stress-related.
@Van
I’ve been trying to cut back on gaming for this reason. It’s just not worth getting upset. My cat understands I’m not mad at her, but I can still tell it stresses her out. It’s hard when you’re stuck on a tough game though, like the last challenge in Horizon Forbidden West!
@Tavi
Saying gaming is a waste of time but then talking about getting stuck in a single-player game… interesting take!
@Tavi
Well, not everyone is into story mode difficulty
@Van
That sounds like what’s happening. It might be stress or anxiety from the noise or emotions during your game.
Do you take him out for walks? Maybe give him a chew toy or a Kong stuffed with cheese or something while you play.

He has everything he needs, but he still acts like a spoiled child!
I started talking to my cat while gaming. At first, he hated it, but after I acknowledged him every now and then, he was more chill. He even has a specific time when I get off the computer and watch Netflix with him. That way, he gets his lap time.
@Tyler
I’ve tried that, but it doesn’t work for me… he still doesn’t stop
My dog gives me that judgmental look whenever I’m on my phone, just staring at me with a serious face
Sometimes pets just try to stop us from doing things they think are bad for us.

I think you’re right, but it’s strange. He doesn’t act like this when I watch horror movies or anything else, just when I play games.

Yeah, my dog thinks I’m upset when I play, so he whines. He doesn’t understand it’s not about him.
@Dezi
My dog will literally tell me when it’s bedtime. If I’m still on the computer after 10pm, she’ll come and remind me. Just like a mom!
Maybe he just wants to try playing too!
I can relate. My dog gets really anxious when he hears a particular twitch streamer’s voice. Even if he’s in another room, he runs to me or my partner, jumping and shaking like crazy until we turn it off. We just guide him to his kennel until he calms down.
