Is it okay to toss dog poop bags in neighborhood bins during walks?

Please don’t put dog poop in my bin. Just carry it home.

Adding trash to trash… how is that rude?

Actually, it’s illegal.

Is that serious? How would that be illegal?

@Mal
If it’s not your bin, it can be considered illegal dumping.

Really? I thought bins belonged to the waste company.

The company may provide them, but the homeowner is responsible for them. And yes, you can be fined for it.

In my area, people rent bins, but I’d rather someone toss a poop bag in than leave it on the grass.

Everyone has different tolerance levels. Dog poop is still stinky, even in scented bags.

We only put our bin out when it’s full, which can take weeks. Don’t want a random poop bag hanging out in there.

Nah, I respect other people’s property. I’ll take the bag to a public bin or home, and only use my own bin on trash day.

Is it okay to use an apartment dumpster? My dog’s favorite spot is nearby, but I’m not sure.

@Micah
I live in an apartment, and I’d say go ahead.

@Micah
The complex pays for it, so it’s usually fine as long as you’re only tossing poop bags.

Thanks for clearing that up!

@Micah
As a property manager, yes, poop bags are fine in the dumpster.

If someone left dog poop in my bin and it wasn’t picked up, I’d be pretty annoyed. I take my dog’s waste back to my own bin.

Totally understand, I haven’t done it either. Just something I thought about when I saw bins lined up at night.

@Torrance
Sometimes small bags do get left behind, so it’s better to be safe.

Only if the homeowner actually says, ‘Sure, toss it in.’ Otherwise, I’m taking it home.
