Our Dog Ate a Whole Bag of Rat Poison. Any Hope He'll Be OK?

We’re a wreck. We paid $4,000 to keep him in ICU. They said his odds aren’t great, but we’re trying everything.

Thanks. We’ll see if insurance can help, but I’m still so scared.

Keep hope alive. I’ve seen animals recover from some tough situations. How’s he doing so far?

No symptoms as of 10 pm. He could’ve eaten it anytime during the day.

@Lane
Let’s see how he’s doing after the 24-hour mark. Holding on to positive updates with you.

I know it’s hard, but he’s in the best place. Try to distract yourself and take some time to rest.

Sending all the good vibes to you and your pup.

Please go see him in the morning. Keeping your family in my thoughts.

Back in the 90s, my lab mix accidentally got into rat poison. It was a horrible experience, but a vitamin K shot saved her life. I’m hoping for the same for your dog!

If you need financial support, check out Scratchpay. I took out a loan to save my brother’s dogs from rat poison. There’s hope!

Two of my dogs got into poison once. We used peroxide to make them throw up, and they ended up being fine.

I used to work in emergency animal care, and dogs eating toxic things was common. As long as they’re fast about inducing vomiting, there’s often hope.

Rats can’t vomit, which is why the poison kills them. Dogs, however, have a chance if it’s caught in time.

True, but even dogs suffer internal damage. The faster you induce vomiting, the better.

@Aki
Good point. Rats are more vulnerable, but it’s dangerous to all animals.

Sorry you’re going through this. It’s great that he’s with the vet. Stay positive and support each other. Keeping your family in my thoughts.

My dog once ate something similar. We induced vomiting right away and brought her to the ER. It was tough, but she pulled through after a few days of monitoring.

Accidents happen, and some dogs just get into trouble no matter how careful you are. Keeping your dog in my thoughts for a quick recovery.

One of my dogs ate something toxic from the trash, and they both ended up having seizures. After a few days, they recovered. Sending healing thoughts your way.

Praying for him :purple_heart:
